Welcome to the Advisement Center! We help students transition from high school and other institutions to the SUNY Oswego community.

Even before you start your first semester we are by your side providing academic advising and introducing you to campus-wide resources, services, and experiences that will help you thrive academically and socially.

Drop-In Advisement 

Drop-in hours are 9am to 3pm Monday through Friday. You can also reach out to [email protected] with any advisement questions.

Advisors help with:

  • Discuss major and career options
  • Assist with course selection and academic planning 
  • Interpret college policies, procedures, and requirements
  • Help you stay on track to graduate
  • Provide strategies for time management and studying
  • Connect you to learning services and extra-curricular activities

Mission and Vision

Mission

Our goal is to help students succeed in their first year through supportive, collaborative advising. Academic Success Advisors work with first-year and transfer students to understand key information, build essential skills, and navigate college with confidence. We’re here to support you not just in your first year, but throughout your time at Oswego.

Vision

Our vision is to provide quality, holistic advisement services that meet each student's unique needs. Through partnership with colleagues across campus we aim to establish an environment that supports student retention and success.

Goals

  • Aid students in having successful transition to the university. 
  • Ensure students know how to utilize campus resources and support services. 
  • Assess an appropriate academic plan for timely graduation based on demonstrated academic abilities, personal interests, and expressed goals. 
  • Assist student in the process of interpreting and taking responsibility for knowing university policies and procedures, including the importance of adhering to deadlines. 
  • Continuously assess academic progress and success through technology such as MyOswego, Degreeworks, and Starfish. 
  • Encourage students to utilize professional communication across campus for career readiness and life skills.

Student Learning Outcomes

  • Students will know the campus resources and academic support services available to them. 
  • Students will know how to use Oswego technologies such as MyOswego and Degreeworks. 
  • Students will know how to register for classes. 
  • Students will understand academic policies and procedures. 
  • Students will have an understanding of their graduation and degree requirements.

Advisement Process

All students are assigned Academic Success Advisors who are specially trained to assist students with the transition to SUNY Oswego, and provide you with the right information to help you reach your academic goals leading to graduation. As you progress at Oswego you'll be assigned a department faculty advisor who will work with you for the rest of your college career.
