Digital Accessibility

Prioritizing digital accessibility across all campus activities, programs, services, and materials is a shared responsibility. Each of us can ensure that SUNY Oswego meets our commitment to inclusive and equitable education for everyone.

Digital accessibility is an essential component of our public mission, recognizing that equitable access to information and experiences is a fundamental human right as outlined by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities

Many disabilities aren’t visible. Designing with accessibility in mind is a proactive approach where we ensure our materials are flexible from the start. This doesn’t replace the need for accommodations, but does minimize the need for individuals to disclose their disability status.

For content to be truly accessible, it needs to be readable by machines and usable with assistive technologies, not just affordable or easy to find online. Because we aim to serve all members of the public, it’s important for everyone on campus to create content that meets these standards. Doing so helps us fulfill our mission, respect civil rights, and build a genuinely inclusive community.

Requirements of Title II

Our legal commitment is defined by Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), which requires our online programs, services, and materials to adhere to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) by April 2026. We’re each responsible for taking the necessary steps to meet this requirement.
