Welcome! SUNY Oswego is committed to enabling inclusive and equitable educational opportunities. Accessibility is an important part of this effort: accessibility refers to the usability of spaces, services, products, and documents by people with disabilities.
Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
This law requires state and local governments to ensure that their services, programs, and activities are accessible to people with disabilities—this includes those offered online and through mobile applications. A new rule was adopted that provides specific requirements for ensuring web content and mobile applications (apps) are accessible to people with disabilities. The deadline to meet this requirement is April 2026. Are you ready?
Accessibility vs. Availability
As the word accessibility becomes more common, it’s often confused with availability. Content may be available online or at low-cost, but that doesn’t make it accessible.
Digital content is accessible when it’s machine-readable and follows basic accessibility principles. Many people rely on tools such as screen readers, braille displays, and audio interfaces, that depend on this.
These pages explain how to create accessible digital materials including documents, multimedia, presentations, and other communications. Whether you’re a student, instructor, or staff member, you’re a content creator whenever you share digital materials. Use this guidance to discover, create, and share public-facing content that’s as accessible as possible.
