Biography
Miles Petersen spent his early life traveling around the world, a few years growing up in each country. After moving to America, it was difficult for him to find a direction until he started taking art classes in high school as a way to avoid taking Spanish classes. Shortly after, he discovered art to be his passion. Coming to SUNY Oswego, he did not want to limit himself to a single medium. Miles' goal is to create his own identity through a multitude of mediums. He has worked to design for the Vote Oswego team. He also designed and produced an interactive exhibit titled Recollections, that travels to various hospitals in the Syracuse area. Currently, with a BFA degree in graphic design, Miles is working towards building a clothing brand, incorporating both screenprinting and animation.
Artist Statement
I’ve always been impressed by my peers here at SUNY Oswego. I used to want to be able to produce the same work that I would see them make, but over time my opinion changed. We are all talented in our own way, whether it be our medium of choice or our stylistic motives. Going to this school has helped me figure out what my passion is. Before joining the art program I was lost in terms of life goals. The first class I genuinely enjoyed was an art class. Quoting the late, great Mark Twain “Find a job you enjoy doing, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” I enjoy doing the work I do, even as tedious as it may seem I will never stop enjoying it.
