Biography

Meghan is a photographer from Long Island, NY, and will be an Oswego graduate in Spring 2020. This May, she will be graduating with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts with a concentration in photography. Her passion for photography started in the darkroom and quickly expanded to digital photography. Ever since then, her infatuation with photography led her to where she is today. After graduating, she will be focusing on attending graduate school for a Masters of Fine Arts. She plans to continue her photography in years to come and is enthusiastic about her future.

Artist Statement

I use photography as a means of expressing myself and my ideas artistically. Every photo is a visual representation of my style, identity, and mentality. Whether using a digital or analog camera, my work always involves a process that attempts to provoke meaning while being my own esthetic. My work typically consists of a lot of portrait photography, but I just as much enjoy the simplicity of bringing a camera on the go documenting everyday life. When shooting portraiture, my relationship with my models and their translations of my ideas are significantly crucial to me. As a result, I am drawn to the process of composing work that holds value to myself others around me.

This image is of a tightly framed portrait of a girl with harsh shadows. Darkness surrounds the face, framing the subject matter and pushing it forward. Her face has no expression on it as her eyes and lips are gently closed with her skin showing much detail and shadow. There is a hard shadow vertically across her face with a rectangle framing her right eye. The shadow continues around the entirety of the face closing out all surroundings.
