Biography

Ezra Harshberger is a painter and illustrator living in Syracuse, New York, where he has lived for most of his life. As a child, he excelled in the arts and was encouraged to continue drawing. After High School, Ezra attended Onondaga Community College, where he worked as a gallery docent and participated in two SUNY-wide exhibitions. He is currently a Senior at SUNY Oswego and will receive his BFA in Studio Arts with a minor in Illustration in August 2021.

Artist Statement

Ezra's work consists of digital and traditional work. He synthesizes 3D modeling and 2D painting to create spacious environmental pieces. This work is meant for his professional goals to work in the film and game industries as a visual development artist. His love of plein air painting greatly influences the work; the inclusion of plein air and digital landscapes maintains an expressive quality with his painterly style.

We see two underwater exploratory vessels swoop in from the right. They have two orange headlights and metal arms. There is a large rock arch in the center right frame. Coral and other plant life populate the scene.

A bowl filled with chicken and noodles take up the majority of the frame. Red hot sauce is drizzled on top of the food. The surface the bowl sits on is a textured grey granite. A halved hard boiled egg is on the left hand side in the bowl. The broth is a warm ochre brown.

A small white dog takes up most of the image. It is painted very loosely, made up of a patchwork of different colors. The image is broken up into bands indicating a ground he is sitting on. The palette is complementary with violet and yellow ochre.
