Artist Statement
When describing my work as a whole, I only think of the things that inspired them. My work is mostly a collection of my memories and past experiences. I was born in Puerto Rico and came here when I was thirteen, so in large part, my culture and how my family and I keep our traditions alive drive my inspiration to create. I often find myself creating work that expresses the way I felt throughout the transitional period of learning a new culture and the way that changed how I see the world. The pieces in the show are a mix of my Illustration work and my graphic design work, which in themselves are very different in style and tone. My graphic design work is more practical and to the point while my Illustration work is more open-ended. In turn, I hope to show my versatility as a designer/artist.
