Biography

Andjela Djapa is an international student from Serbia currently residing in Oswego, New York. Her curiosity led to her exploring many different mediums and fields f art and design. After dabbling in computer science, she majored in graphic design, focusing on web design. Accepted into the Master's in Human-Computer Interaction Program, she will continue at SUNY Oswego in the fall. Her competitive nature led her to be a passionate lover of card games. Her biggest achievement was taking a risk and traveling across the ocean to make her vision come true.

Artist Statement

My life as an artist began when I was in preschool. Due to my mom's job, I had to stay in preschool after hours. In hopes of entertaining us, the preschool organized a crafts workshop. That was the first time I dived into the world of art and creativity. I got to play with colors and materials that I didn't have access to back home, and ever since then, my life path has always had art and creativity embedded in it. At the beginning of my college years, I dabbled in computer science and grew fond of it. Afterward, I knew that my life would need to have art and computers. 

I was always curious, asking questions like why and how? This led to me having multiple hobbies on the side and having a diverse portfolio. My mother used to joke that I could never sit still. I always searched for something to make, read or do. Therefore, I believe my portfolio represents this attitude. Rather than focusing on one field, I tried experimenting with many different mediums and programs. There hasn't been a single field that I have not liked so far. 

I continuously looked at the world and admired its beauty. Therefore my work usually portrays things that capture my attention in one way or another. Sometimes I do that by hand and sometimes with my mouse, thanks to the modern age that we live in, that has brought much diversity to the field of art and endless possibilities to express oneself.

Here there are six pages that are part of an illustrated children’s book divided into two rows an three columns. The title of the books is “Life of Mouse”. The first piece in the upper left corner int the cover of the book, with a mouse and three flowers surrounding it. The illustration to the right shows two mice in a bedroom, the older mouse is sitting in a pink armchair holding a book that it’s reading to the younger mouse who is lying in the bed on the left side. The third piece is all the way in the upper right corner, showing the town that these mice live in, we can see their houses which are upside down teacups. We also get so see some plants and flowers growing in the area. In the second row we have another illustration from inside the house, this time in a kitchen/living room area. In here we see the mouse eating chess from a plate. In the background we can see the kitchen and a couch. As well as some kitchen utensils and pictures on the walls. Next piece portrays a scene in the park with children mice plating soccer with a ball that resembles cheese. In the background we can see two mice playing in the sand box and one swinging on the swings. The last piece is two mice in a purple car that has two suitcases on the roof. They are traveling at night under a sky full of starts.

This is an animated poster of a  2D room where we can see a table on the right side and a bookshelf on the left. The wall behind them is covered with picture frames and on  the top of a bookshelf there is a cat sleeping. The bookshelf  has plants, books and an aquarium on it. On the table we can see a laptop and the letters “z,z,z” blinking on it. At the bottom of the piece we can see letters “Lazy Sunday'' being drawn onto the screen. Most of the picture frames have elements moving in them and we can see the cat's tail curling in and out.
