The Triandiflou Institute Faculty Fellowship is open to tenure and tenure-track faculty at SUNY Oswego who are engaged in, or have ideas for projects that explore diversity, equity, and inclusion or implement transformative practices to address institutional needs. Fellows will support Institute activities, including student research and educational programs.
Our goal is to recognize and elevate the intellectual contributions of faculty working in DEISJ. By doing so, we recognize the original contributions of faculty to these important initiatives. The term of the Faculty Fellow will be a year and a half term.
Ideas may include:
- Develop Curricular Practices to Support Inclusive and Diverse Classroom Environments
- Develop and/or Redesign Courses for Major or Core Curriculum
- Support Scholarly Engagement
- Develop scholar-practitioner collaborations
- Develop Resource Toolkit
- Identify Areas of Potential Collaboration to Enhance Diversity and Inclusion
- Develop Public Educational Materials (videos, posters, ect.) to promote DEI on campus
Compensation:
Faculty fellows will receive support during their fellowship.
- Resources will be in the form of working with Institute staff when/where appropriate and as demarcated by mutual agreement
- Course time release provided by Provost in form of funding for adjunct faculty
- Professional development funds at least $500 over the course of fellowship
- $2500/semester in aid directly to the department from Institute for professional development and other resources.
Additional resources may be made available depending on the needs of the project at hand and the kinds of support that will lead to successful completion.
Purpose of Fellowship:
- Create a pathway for faculty members to provide "independent, professional, collegial support and assistance.
- Provide faculty members with opportunities to observe and participate in a variety of decision-making processes and leadership opportunities.
- Enhance research and collaboration, and leverage expertise in diversity, equity, and inclusion across pedagogy and praxis.
- Increase faculty members’ understanding of the nature of diversity and inclusion administrative operations at SUNY Oswego.
Beyond the stated project, the responsibilities of the Faculty Fellow are:
- Attendance at Institute meetings and retreats
- Semester progress reports, to be submitted to the Institute director and Provost/appropriate administrator. These reports should provide overviews of the tasks completed, projected timelines for those still underway, and any created materials that might be of service for documentation of completed work
- Consult on Faculty outreach and engagement specifically within and with the Institute Offer guidance to the Director and staff of the Institute and consultation and Initiatives on effective strategies for enhancing the work the Institute does with faculty on DEI.
- Assess and evaluate programs
- Be a trained facilitator in the “Being Bold: Conversation on Race and Identity”
- Assist in creating and assessing programming
- Presentation of research/project
Faculty Fellows will be selected by a committee composed of the Institute staff, Provost, and former Institute Fellow(s), and the dean of Communication, Media and the Arts. Successful candidates will be notified prior to the end of the semester preceding their start and receive assistance during that same semester from the outgoing fellow to understand logistics of onboarding and to provide assistance with getting started.
Required application materials:
Applicants should submit a CV and a proposal for intended areas of focus during the fellowship. The proposal should highlight the synergies between the applicant’s desired areas of focus, the ongoing work of the institute, and the university’s overarching priorities related to diversity and inclusion. While a letter of support is not necessary from the applicant’s chair, applicants should communicate with their chair regarding their submission.
