Student Clubs and Organizations

At SUNY Oswego, recognized student organizations are a vital part of campus life, offering opportunities to grow, connect, and thrive beyond the classroom. There are many types of organizations available to our students from academic, honor societies, performing arts, media, club sports, multicultural, special interest & more.

Membership in any registered student organization is open to any current SUNY Oswego student who is willing to meet the obligations of the organization. Registered Student organizations shall not discriminate or restrict membership based on race, color, national origin, sex, gender, sexual orientation, or any other protected class.

The Student Organization Handbook provides essential information on how to start and manage a student organization, plan events, access funding, and ensure your group aligns with university values and expectations. Our goal is to help you and your organization grow, connect and thrive.

If you have an idea for a club that isn't currently offered, learn about Starting a New Organization.

Club and org life cycle. Step 1, registration. Step 2, training. Step 3, development opportunities. Step 4, end of year portfolios.

Annual Club Registration

Each academic year, student clubs and organizations must re-register in Laker Life at the start of the fall semester to remain active. The president is responsible for submitting the form. In addition to registration, organizations must also complete required trainings, officer transition, and an end of the year portfolio.

For Fall 2025, the re-registration form is open in Laker Life 8 AM Monday, August 18 through 11:55 PM Friday, September 5.

Registration Reminders

  • Be sure to update your organization’s page with current officers and advisor, remove former members, and add new ones.
  • All members must be current SUNY Oswego students.
  • Registrations will be approved after Officer Onboarding workshops to ensure representation.
  • Once approved, the organization will stay active through the fall and spring semesters.

Officer Onboarding

All clubs and organizations will be required to send officers to Officer Onboarding.  Four E-board members from every registered student organization on campus must attend one of the offered workshops, although attendance is highly encouraged for all E-board positions.

For Fall 2025, onboarding workshops will be Monday, September 8th and Friday, September 12th from 4:30 PM-6:30 PM in Lanigan 101.

Officer Transition Workshops

Officer Transition Workshops are designed to provide additional information and support to student organizations that are undergoing a transition in leadership.  Two current and two incoming E-board members must attend one of the offered workshops, although attendance is highly encouraged for all officers.

End Of The Year Portfolio

The End of the Year Portfolio is designed to assist student organizations in transitioning from year to year, documenting successes and areas for improvement, and keeping record of important information such as constitution changes, budget requests, social media platforms and more.
