Strategic Planning: Anchor Subcommittees

The Anchor Subcommittees play a crucial role in shaping SUNY Oswego's strategic plan, particularly as we strive to meet the bold goals of Vision 4040: Expanding SUNY Oswego’s Promise. Each subcommittee, chaired by members of the Strategic Planning Steering Committee (SPSC), is charged with creating a comprehensive report with their subcommittee’s recommendations. These reports, due at the end of April 2024, will contribute significantly to the university's strategic direction.

Guided by SUNY Oswego's current mission, vision, and institutional priorities, the Anchor Subcommittees will utilize various frameworks to inform their process. This includes Vision 4040, SUNY's Four Pillars, and the Postsecondary Value Commission’s action agenda. These guidelines will serve as a backdrop for all planning efforts and assure alignment with overarching goals and values.

The composition of each Anchor Subcommittee reflects a diverse cross-section of the university community, ensuring a broad range of perspectives and expertise. Their responsibilities include actualizing elements of the strategic plan, acknowledging the interconnectedness of various plan elements, and considering sustainable growth management. The subcommittees are also focused on taking a holistic approach to achieve measurable outcomes that resonate with both the university and the regional community.

Upon completion of the subcommittee reports, the SPSC will undertake a thorough review to align the strategic plan with SUNY Oswego’s mission, vision, and values. This step is pivotal in ensuring that the university's guiding statements are reflected in the strategic actions and decisions that emerge from this collaborative effort.

1.) Equity Informed Student Success

The primary goal for SUNY Oswego is to educate our students to ensure their success and achieve their goals. Toward that end, all university operations work together to create and support a transformative experience for our students. We are obligated to maximize student opportunities to learn, and to complete their education with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to allow them to be successful after leaving SUNY Oswego. Prioritizing an inclusive community, SUNY Oswego must provide the quality programs, support structures to ensure students feel they belong and persist to graduation, and engaging learning opportunities (HIPs). This all needs to be done through a lens of equity and inclusiveness to address achievement gaps, and must include all of our students (main campus, Syracuse campus, graduate, online, international, etc.). Addressing these issues will also facilitate our enrollment goals both directly and indirectly.

2.) A Vibrant Faculty and Staff

Faculty and staff success is the cornerstone of a thriving university community, playing a pivotal role in shaping the academic landscape and ensuring the seamless functioning of essential services. Faculty and staff ensure the inclusive excellence in creative and scholarly pursuits. It is vital to recruit and retain faculty and staff who represent our students inside and outside the classroom. In addition, the mental health and well being of our faculty and staff impacts the students, campus, and community. As participatory agents in society, our faculty and staff are models and mentors for our students and community.

To realize Vision 4040 and expand the Oswego Promise, we must optimize our educational offerings to meet workforce needs and develop graduates that engage and lift their communities. New and/or expanded programs require human and physical resources to be successful, all while funding, revising and designing a vibrant curriculum for all of our programs.
