Program and Events

Rice Creek Field Station brings plenty of life to our campus and community with many nature education programs for all ages, including children, college students, and adult community members. In addition to our programming, the Field Station is open to view our natural history displays, and featured artwork and to learn about the research conducted on-site.

2nd-5th Saturdays of each month, 11 am, free and open to the public

Guided Nature Walks

Rice Creek's naturalists will be your guides as you explore the forests, fields, wetlands, and waterways of the field station on these 1-hour walks. Snowshoes are available in winter, weather permitting.

Rice Creek Associates Reflections Presentations

At these bi-monthly talks hosted by the Rice Creek Associates, speakers present on a variety of topics related to local ecology and environmental themes of interest to the community.

Exploring Nature

Our educational summer camp encourages young people's curiosity about their world. Participants discover nature first-hand through nature walks, activities, and games.

First Saturday of each month, 10 am and 1 pm free and open to the public

Junior Naturalist Walks

Budding junior naturalists and their families are invited for monthly themed walks and nature activities. Once children attend 10 walks, they are inducted as a "Rice Creek Junior Naturalist"!

Thursdays, Jan - Apr, 3:30 - 4:30pm free and open to the public

Birdwatching for Citizen Science

Be a citizen scientist as you survey the birds at the Rice Creek feeders from our indoor viewing area. Our naturalists are happy to help beginners learn to identify birds. This is a great activity for all ages.

Certain Saturdays, 1 pm free and open to the public

Winter's "Tails" story hour

Join us as we share hot cocoa and tales of nature, animals' wild ways, and how we relate to the world around us. Each program features two books and a creative activity. Best for school-aged children.

Nature Ed Newsletter

Free and open to the public

We want to help you and your family get engaged in nature. Through this periodic newsletter, you'll receive mini lessons and fun activities around a particular nature theme. We provide resources for exploring the theme through the lens of literature, science, art, and more. Pick and choose the resources that work for your family, and start learning and exploring! You'll also have the option to connect with other Nature Ed families through a private Facebook group.
