Sigma Delta Pi Spanish Honor Society Induction Ceremony


Prof. Zoraida Lopez, Sigma Delta Pi advisor, conducted the initiation ceremony to induct Edito Ramos Palacios and Emma Goldthwait. We were privileged to honor Dr. Milton Loayza's memory, who reactivated Sigma Delta Pi on campus, and welcome Mr. Steven Strange, who graduated from SUNY Oswego with a major in Spanish in 1972, the same year he obtained the charter for the Iota Zeta chapter of Sigma Delta Pi.
Dr. Gonzalo Aguiar Malosetti gave introductory remarks to honor Dr. Milton Loayza and introduce Mr. Steven Strange. Other faculty members in attendance: Prof. Beatriz Salcedo Strumpf, Dr. Roseli Rojo, Dr. Georgina Whittingham, and Ms. Brenda Farnham, Administrative Assistant, Department of Modern Languages and Literatures.

Requirements for Regular Membership

  • At least 18 credit hours of Spanish courses completed
  • At least one 300-level or higher Spanish course completed.
  • At least a 3.2 GPA in overall studies and 3.0 in Spanish.
  • Sigma Delta Pi does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national or ethnic origin, sex, age, or disability.

Initiation Fee: $0.00 (department will pay)

  • You will receive a Sigma Delta Pi pin, an embossed certificate, an honor cord for those graduating in May or December and a Carnation for the other candidates the day of the ceremony.
    Application Deadline: April 2nd.
