Scholarships for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland

GETGO (Global Experience Travel Grant from Oswego)

The Department of Modern Languages and Literatures offers the GETGO grant to support Oswego students who study a foreign language at partner institutions around the world. Almost every Oswego student who studies German in Germany, Switzerland, and Austria receives a grant.   Students apply when they complete the application to study abroad through Oswego.

DAAD University Summer Course Grant

The German Academic Exchange Service offers summer scholarships to university students who are currently studying German. The summer courses are offered at various German universities. Traditionally, the grant covers the tuition and health insurance, and helps defray the cost of housing.  Scholarship winners also receive a travel grant to offset the transportation costs. Students apply at the DAAD website

Gilman Scholarships

Receiving a Federal Pell Grant?  Then you are eligible for the Gilman Scholarship, which supports study abroad for students of limited means.  Details at the Gilman Scholarship website or at the Gilman-DAAD Scholarship page.

OEAD

Austria offers a limited number of scholarships for undergraduates via its Agency for Education and Internationalization. View all OeAD Grants and Scholarships.

ThinkSwiss

This program offers funding for summer research and summer study programs. For research grants, students must find a host professor in Switzerland with whom they will collaborate.  The summer study programs are offered by various Swiss universities and are usually taught in English.  Previous summer program courses topics have been genomics, business, finance, health law, and human rights.

Delta Phi Alpha German Honor Society

Delta Phi Alpha offers various scholarships for its members.  Inducted members are advised to check the website regularly.

American Association of Teachers of German (AATG)

The AATG maintains an extensive list of funding sources here.

Fulbright Germany (post-graduate)

Each year, the Fulbright Program funds 120 English Teaching Assistant Awards, 70 Open Study/Research Awards, and 5 Young Professional Journalists to work or study in Germany for an academic year.
