About CLASE

The College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Engineering (CLASE) brings together disciplines that help students understand the world and shape its future. Rooted in the traditions of the liberal arts and sciences, a CLASE education emphasizes critical thinking, communication, problem solving and adaptability in a complex global society.

Overview

The College of Liberal Arts, Sciences and Engineering (CLASE) is the largest academic division at SUNY Oswego, with 19 academic departments and 19 interdisciplinary programs across the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, natural sciences and engineering. The college also includes distinctive learning environments such as Rice Creek Field Station and serves as the academic home for undeclared students exploring their interests.

More than 200 faculty members support students through mentorship, collaborative learning and hands-on opportunities such as undergraduate research, fieldwork and applied learning.

Mission

CLASE is an interactive, learning-centered community committed to high intellectual standards and to helping students apply the knowledge and skills of a liberal arts and sciences education to a changing and diverse world.

Through study in both traditional and interdisciplinary programs, CLASE prepares students to think critically, communicate effectively and develop solutions to complex challenges in their communities and beyond.
