Stephen Papay is a Visiting Assistant Professor for SUNY Oswego’s Department of Health Promotion and Wellness. Professor Papay brings over 14 years of experience in the Allied Healthcare field, and 6 years of experience in education to the department. He holds a M.A.T. in K-12 Physical Education from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke, a B.S. in Health and Physical Education-Athletic Training from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, and an A.S.T. in Massage Therapy and Bodywork from the Career Training Academy-Monroeville Campus.

Prior to being appointed as a Visiting Assistant Professor, he held other positions in the education, and allied health care fields. His most recent roles were at SUNY Oswego as an Assistant Athletic Trainer for the Department of Athletics, Strength and Conditioning Coach for the Department of Athletics, and as an Adjunct Faculty Member for the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness. Before his arrival in New York, he served as an Assistant Athletic Trainer and Faculty Member for the University of North Carolina at Pembroke. Professor Papay began his career in education and athletics as a High School Teacher, and Head Athletic Trainer at Scotland High School, in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Prior to pursuing a career in athletics, he ran his own massage therapy business in the Greater Pittsburgh area.

Professor Papay also holds certifications through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), Board of Certification-National Athletic Trainers’ Association (BOC-NATA), American Red Cross (ARC) including:

  • Mixed Marital Arts Conditioning Specialist (NASM)Professor Papay’s research interests include nutrition related to sports performance, as well as training method/style and the affect on sports performance.
