Bio

Dr. Kristen Campbell Eichhorn is a distinguished figure in the field of higher education, celebrated for her visionary approach and unwavering commitment to student access and success. Currently serving as the Dean of Graduate Studies at SUNY Oswego, she leads transformative initiatives aimed at enhancing the student experience, breaking down barriers, and revolutionizing graduate education through innovative programs. 

Dr. Eichhorn’s impressive journey includes a Faculty Fellowship in the President’s Office at SUNY Oswego, where she gained invaluable insights into higher education administration. Her expertise was further honed during a prestigious yearlong fellowship at Cornell University’s Office of the Provost, facilitated by the American Council on Education. 

At the core of Dr. Eichhorn’s administrative philosophy lie principles of open communication, mutual respect and intentional practices to foster diverse and inclusive environments. Notably, she served as the Interim Dean of the Division of Extended Learning at SUNY Oswego, demonstrating her adaptability and leadership acumen. Additionally, she successfully led two consecutive terms as the chair of the Communication Studies Department. 

Dr. Eichhorn’s research contributions span interdisciplinary contexts. Her work has graced the pages of prestigious journals, including the Journal of Computer-Mediated Communication, Human Communication, College Student Journal, Communication Research Reports, International Journal of Leadership Studies and Public Relations Review. Notably, she co-authored two editions of the highly regarded book, “Interpersonal Communication: Building Rewarding Relationships,” alongside esteemed colleagues Candice Thomas-Maddox and Melissa Bekelja Wanzer. In addition to her co-authorship, Dr. Eichhorn recently assumed the role of editor for the latest edition of the well-established book, “An Integrated Approach to Communication Theory and Research.” Collaborating with Don W. Stacks, she ensured that this comprehensive resource remains at the forefront of communication scholarship. Beyond her scholarly endeavors, Dr. Eichhorn actively contributes to various executive boards. Her commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering collaboration is evident through her service on Central New York’s Biotech Accelerator board, ACE’s Council of Fellows, New York Sea Grant and the Northeastern Association of Graduate Schools.
