Supporting Students with Disabilities in School Settings 

There is a national and state shortage of certified special educators in NYS, as well as the US. This microcredential is a sequence of four graduate courses designed to provide teachers certified in childhood, adolescent, or TESOL education with additional coursework in special education pedagogy. Completion of this microcredential will augment the skill set of participants to address the learning needs of students at risk and/or identified with a disability. The sequence can be completed in one year and may lead to New York State (NYS) Students with Disabilities (SWD)- All Grades teacher certification.

Who is eligible?

All students who have earned at least a 3.0 in their bachelors degree from an accredited educator preparation program, and hold a NYS Teaching certification in childhood, adolescent, or TESOL education.

SPE 514: Methods & Materials for Students with Special Needs, Grades PK-6 (3 credits)
OR
SPE 535: Special Education Methods, Grades 7-12 (3 credits)
