Courses for Novice (Grades 2 & 3)

Instructors: Devin Flynn & Shea McCarthy

This year instruction will help kids explore their love of learning through various activities centered around art, technology, science, math, and social studies.

This year's theme is The Ocean and Oceanography

Novice Division participants will engage in learning about The Ocean and Oceanography. Summertime is for fun and exploration! It gets hot here in Upstate NY, and we only have a small window of time to enjoy it in! Students will get to satisfy their curiosities and cool down at the same time by exploring the oceans of the world! We’ll spend each day learning about the different layers of the ocean and the curious creatures that inhabit them. Students will hone and stretch their academic skills in a myriad of ways that all connect back to the largest habitats on earth.

Students will also be the artist of their very own painting of an underwater scene! We will splatter, drip and swirl our way to a masterpiece of each student's artistic vision. We will dive into watercolor painting techniques and learn fun facts about the ocean in the process. Just like us, our underwater scenes will be one-of-a-kind! We’ll talk about the impact oceans have on the earth’s climate, human life, and vice versa. Our class will finish off with a creative project about a chosen sea creature and its role and impact on its environment.

Novice students will also be able to swim in Lee Hall pool under the supervision of a Lifeguard with parent/guardian permission.
