Human Development at Syracuse

Bachelor of Arts (BA)
Human Development at Syracuse BA

Complete your bachelor’s degree in human development at SUNY Oswego’s Syracuse Campus through a flexible completion program for transfer students, returning students and working adults. Through interdisciplinary coursework, internship experiences and personalized academic planning, you’ll build an understanding of human growth, development and behavior while preparing for careers that support individuals, families and communities. This program is a strong option for students interested in human services, counseling-related fields, psychology, family support, advocacy, community organizations or graduate study in related areas.

Overview

Human Development is an interdisciplinary program that explores how people grow, learn and change across the lifespan. Courses in areas such as psychology, sociology, anthropology, family studies, communication and counseling help you understand people within social, cultural and community contexts.

Through a personalized learning agreement, you can choose additional courses that align with your educational goals and career interests. You’ll also complete two semester-long internships, giving you the opportunity to apply classroom learning in human-services, community-based or related professional settings.

Coursework also introduces research methods, program development and evaluation, helping you understand how data and evidence can be used to improve services and support people more effectively.

Curriculum

Because this Syracuse-based program is designed as a completion degree for transfer students, we recommend connecting with an academic planning coordinator before you apply. Your coordinator can help review your previous credits, explain degree requirements and determine whether Human Development is the right path for your goals.

This planning step is especially helpful for students returning to college, transferring from a community college or balancing school with work and family responsibilities.
