Professor's newest play to have local debut

"Haunted Hearts," a brand new play co-written by English and creative writing faculty member Juliet Giglio with her husband Keith, will premiere Sept. 17 at the CNY Arts Center in Fulton.

This the second play by the local playwrights and Hollywood writer/producers to debut at the CNY Arts Center. The run will include 7 p.m. curtains on Sept. 17, 18 and 19 with a 3 p.m. Sunday matinee on Sept. 20. The cast and crew include SUNY Oswego alumni as well.

Juliet Giglio describest the play as "hilarity and heart and a lot of fun."

"Unlike many shows staged in the Halloween season, this play is not scary," said director Glen Merrill, a 1988 Oswego English graduate. "I would put this at a PG rating."

"Haunted Hearts" is a romantic comedy, a genre the husband-wife playwriting team know well, having written four Christmas movies and numerous other comedies for Hollywood studios.

Love is all around the show as the director and stage manager (Nicole Merrill) are also married.

"I'm absolutely having a ball working with my husband," Nicole Merrill said. "We met 30 years ago in the theatre and this is kind of taking us back to our original early days."

"It's been so much fun to direct the first production of this play," Glen Merrill added. "The actors have been absolutely incredible."

In a story about mood rings, possession and disco, Keith Giglio believes that, "When it comes down to it, when we fall in love, we're all a little possessed."

This project is made possible with funds from the Statewide Community Regrants Program, a regrant program of the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of the Office of the Governor and the New York State Legislature and administered by CNY Arts.
