Inaugural Equity Summit scheduled Sept. 17-18

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion will host SUNY Oswego's first Equity Summit on Thursday, Sept. 17 and Friday, Sept. 18. 

This inaugural event is a comprehensive gathering designed to foster dialogue and collaboration among institutional and community partners needed to elevate diversity, equity and inclusion efforts. 

The two-day summit will explore critical issues related to university climate, examine national and local trends, and unveil the university's new Strategic Implementation Plan (SIP) for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. 

The summit will feature a keynote address from Michael Benitez, a nationally recognized educator, scholar and strategist whose work offers critical insight into leadership, organizational culture and institutional change in higher education. 

Additional highlights include a dinner and dialogue session facilitated by the El-Hindi Center for Dialogue & Action at InterFaith Works and the James A. Triandiflou Institute for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Transformative Practice, as well as a professional workshop led by Dr. Jamie Washington, president and co-founder of the Social Justice Training Institute and Past President of the American College Personnel Association. 

The Equity Summit offers members of the university community and regional partners a vital opportunity to engage with a shared commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging, and to see themselves reflected in this collective work. 

Participants will leave equipped with a deeper understanding of the shared responsibility for fostering a culture of inclusive excellence and a plan to translate the university's diversity, equity and inclusion values into meaningful action.
