Deborah Diment wins SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service

More than 40 years of outstanding service for SUNY Oswego and its students recently earned Deborah “Debbie” Diment the SUNY Chancellor’s Award for Excellence in Classified Service.

An administrative assistant II for Student Engagement and Leadership Office, Diment “represents the highest standard of classified service. Her sustained excellence, exemplary customer service, and unwavering dedication to SUNY Oswego,” the nominating committee wrote. 

The nomination noted that Diment has demonstrated adaptability, a record of outstanding achievement, professionalism, creativity and a deep commitment to the campus community.

“Throughout her career, Debbie has consistently exceeded the expectations of her role while contributing far beyond its formal scope,” nominators said. “Her extensive institutional knowledge and financial expertise make her an indispensable resource to students, faculty and administrators. She skillfully manages complex budgetary responsibilities for multiple areas with accuracy, transparency and care, and she regularly assists colleagues in navigating policies and procedures with clarity and confidence.”

On top of that expertise, Diment is known as very approachable and caring in every role spanning more than four decades on campus. 

“Her genuine care for people fosters trust and collaboration, making her a valued partner across the institution,” the nominating committee wrote. “She serves as a mentor, problem-solver and steady presence whose work positively impacts staff and students every day.”

Having served in multiple departments during that span, Diment brings both a “big picture” approach and a tremendous amount of attention to the littlest details.

“Her role is critical to daily campus operations, yet Debbie continually goes above and beyond what is required,” nominators wrote. “She volunteers additional time, adjusts her schedule to support campus priorities and approaches every task with energy and enthusiasm. ... Her contributions support both immediate operational needs and the long-term mission of SUNY Oswego.”
