SUNY Oswego at Syracuse is currently putting together the first cohort for its new accredited, executive-style master of business administration (MBA) program as an affordable avenue supporting rising leaders around the region.

This MBA is a cohort-based, hybrid program designed for professionals who want a high-impact graduate experience with real-world application.

“With the coming of Micron’s transformative microchip fabrication facility and growth in partnering industries and support networks, many more leadership opportunities will become valuable in Central New York in the next few years,” said Kristen Eichhorn, vice provost and dean of SUNY Oswego at Syracuse. “Our Syracuse location is the perfect home for this opportunity for today’s emerging leaders to level up into the next generation of executives.”

Oswego’s MBA represents the best value for this program in the region, Eichhorn noted, with a track record of success as a premier Central New York public institution.

The program is best suited for individuals with bachelor’s degrees and at least three years of professional experience.

Courses are delivered in a six-week format, one at a time, allowing participants to stay focused and make steady progress while balancing work and continuing their careers. The first cohort is expected to begin in January 2027, with applications open.

“This new MBA cohort combines the strengths of our MBA programs – excellent teaching, personal advisement, customizable paths, national recognition and a great value – with an increasing need in Central New York,” said Irene Scruton, assistant dean of the College of Business and Entrepreneurship and director of MBA programs. “We look forward to launching this option that fits into the schedules and ambitions of working professionals.”

The flexibility of online learning, combined with the network and support of in-person sessions at SUNY Oswego’s Syracuse campus, will provide the kind of comprehensive experience students have been asking for, Scruton added.

One unique aspect of the cohort model is that students will move through the program with a group of peers, allowing them to build meaningful connections and a strong professional network.

The 36-credit MBA emphasizes applied learning, collaboration and strategic thinking, with opportunities for students to engage in discussions, case-based work and real-world projects that can directly apply to their careers. In addition, these MBA students can learn new skills and techniques that can benefit their work immediately.

The program’s strong focus on data, technology and decision-making aims to ensure that participants will graduate with skills that are immediately relevant in today’s workplace.

In-person sessions at SUNY Oswego’s Syracuse campus downtown on Clinton Square will provide opportunities for collaboration, networking, hands-on learning and direct faculty engagement. Online components will complement these sessions by offering flexibility and accessibility.

An optional international experience will allow participants to broaden their global perspective and understand business in an international context.
