Zine Collection Policy

Purpose

Penfield Library’s zine collection aims to bring unheard voices into the library and to create new connections between the library and students, faculty, staff and alumni. Our goal is to celebrate the creativity and diversity of the members of the SUNY Oswego community.

Institutional Context

As per the Penfield Library Collection Management Policy, "no materials will be excluded from consideration because of the race, nationality, religion, gender, sexual orientation, political or social view of the material, the author, or the intended audience. Individual items, which may be controversial or offensive to some patrons, may appropriately be selected if their inclusion will contribute to the range of viewpoints and effectiveness of the library collection as a whole."

Collection Scope

Zines must be created by a SUNY Oswego student, faculty, staff, or alumni. Zines in the collection may be any genre of zine and about any subject. We want to fully document the interests, beliefs, and artistry of our community.

Collection method

Penfield collects zines through donations of work by SUNY Oswego students, faculty, staff and alumni. We collect at least two copies of zines, one for the second floor browsing collection and one for Special Collections. Zines may be donated as a PDF to be printed by the library (these digital files are not retained) or as physical copies. All zines are cataloged. Zines do not circulate.

Deaccessioning Policy

While Penfield Library does make efforts to protect the zines in our collection, if a zine becomes incomplete or damaged we reserve the right to recycle it. If at any time you wish to remove your zine from the collection please email [email protected]
