Penfield Library has two button making kits which can be checked out by students, faculty, or staff. Although these tools are referred to as button makers, you can also make other items with them, such as magnets and keychains.
Each kit comes with the following:
- The button making machine (Tecre Model 125 for the 1.25" machine; Tecre Model 225 for the 2.25" machine)
- A 'circle cutter' paper punch to cut to the appropriate size (Tecre Model 1629 for the 1.25" kit, and Tecre Model 2625 for the 2.25" kit)
- A mallet (in case items get stuck in the machine)
- Instructions for use
Penfield Library does not provide the supplies needed to make these items, but you should be able to find these supplies at arts crafts stores, Amazon.com, or other online vendors.
No matter what items you make, you will need:
- Clear mylar sheets (which protect your design)
- Your design
- Metal shell
Depending on the type of item you want to make, you might also buy:
- Pin backs (for buttons)
- Unpinned backs (for magnets)
- Self-adhesive magnets
- Keychain backings & keychain hardware
Keep in mind to buy the correct size items! The library's button makers are 1.25" and 2.25".
