Collections By or About Individuals
Bradley Benedict Burt Papers, 1745-1899 Physical collection only
Bradley Benedict Burt was an attorney who grew up in Oswego County, and came back to Oswego to practice law. His hobbies include genealogy and history. His papers are primarily about his ancestors, and those of his in-laws, the Noyes.
Charles F. Burt Papers, 1878-1919 Physical collection only
Charles Burt was a teacher from Albion, NY, though he primarily taught in DeWitt, Michigan. Most of the items in this collection are correspondence between Burt and his parents, and Burt and his son, C. Willard Burt.
Civil War Letters of Richard Lord Hill, 1860-1864 Physical collection only
Richard Lord Hill was a teacher in Fulton, Oswego, and Baldwinsville, and he also edited a newspaper. During the U.S. Civil War, he volunteered and served in the 24th New York Voluntary Infantry Regiment. Our collection contains copies of letters and photographs shared between Hill and his fianceè Julia Havens, who he married in 1863.
Henry A. Ford Collection, January 1, 1832 - December 31, 1956 Physical collection only
These papers were collected by Charles M. Snyder, a former professor in the History department. Henry A. Ford was a missionary doctor from Lisle, New York, who served in Africa, specifically the nation of Gabon. The collection includes correspondence, ledgers, photographs, and books and manuscripts.
Millard Fillmore Papers Digital collection
Millard Fillmore was the 13th President of the United States. The papers are primarily correspondence that Fillmore received (rather than correspondence he sent). The collection also includes legal papers, including court records, reports, and notes.
Millard Powers Fillmore Legal Papers, 1830-1890 Physical collection only
Millard Powers Fillmore was the son of the 13th U.S. President, Millard Fillmore. He was a prominent lawyer in the Buffalo, New York area. Our collection consists primarily of his legal papers, including court records, reports, and notes.
Thomas Powell Collection, 1838-1887 Physical collection only
Thomas Powell was a former Dean of Arts & Sciences here at SUNY Oswego. These papers were collected by Powell, but are not about Powell. There are papers related to Watertown, New York, as well as letters from a Sergeant Benny F. Murfitt, who served during the U.S. Civil War.
Van Keuren Native American Collection, 1968-1994 Physical collection only
Joan Van Keuren worked in various administrative roles at SUNY Oswego in the 1960s and 1970s. She took a sabbatical in 1969-70 and learned from Onondaga Elder Adelphina ("Del") Logan. They became close friends and collaborators, and much of the collection is based on work they did together.
William Bernard Gifford Papers, 1747-1815 Physical collection only
William Bernard Gifford, and his son, John Gifford, both served in the New York militia during the U.S. Revolutionary War. Some papers in the collection relate to this service, but the collection also includes correspondence, legal papers, and more.

Collections By or About Families
Marshall Family Papers, 1762-1908 Physical collection only
Despite the name, these papers aren't only about the Marshall family. They also include papers about the Holmes and DeAngelis families, who, like the Marshalls, settled in central and western New York. This collection contains correspondence, diaries, photographs, daguerreotypes (the predecessor to photographs), maps, cards, and other personal items.
Skinner Family Papers, 1815-1876 Physical collection only
Avery, Cynthia, and Hiram Skinner grew up in New Hampshire, but all eventually moved to Union Square, in Oswego County. This collection includes letters from the siblings to their parents. Avery served in the state legislature, and this collection also includes letters to his wife while he was in Albany for his legislative duties. There is also some genealogical information about the family in this collection.
Wood Family Papers, 1797-1874 Physical collection only
The Wood family is considered to one of the first families to settle in what is now Jefferson County, New York. The village of Woodville was named for three Wood brothers, and was originally called Wood's Settlement. The collection contains mostly legal and financial records from Ephraim and Ebenezer Wood (two of the aforementioned brothers), as well as those belonging to Amos Wood (Ephraim's son).

4th Annual Industrial Arts Exhibit in New York City, 1966 Physical collection only
These papers were contributed by the Technology Education department here at SUNY Oswego. The collection includes photographs of displays at the exhibit, as well as newspaper articles and photographs of Oswego County students and projects.
New York, Ontario, and Western Railroad Records, 1914 Physical collection only
This collection includes waybills, or lists of goods and/or passengers, that were transported via railroad. The train trips in the waybills all had a destination of Wawarsing, New York. Most of the waybills are from the New York, Ontario, and Western Railroad Company.
Wellman's Seneca and Tuscarora Material, 1930-1960 Physical collection only
This collection consists of publications, booklets, maps and posters related to the Seneca and Tuscarora Nations, created between the 1930s and the 1960s. These items were collected by Kendall Wellman, who was the stepfather of Dr. Judith Wellman, a former history professor here at SUNY Oswego.
