Dr. Lisa Glidden brings a deeply interdisciplinary approach to teaching and scholarship, connecting political science with global studies, environmental policy, sustainability, and regional cultural perspectives. She earned her Ph.D. from the University of Washington–Seattle and teaches courses across area studies (Africa, Latin America, Middle East), development, and environmental politics—all fields that reflect the broad, integrative focus of the new Interdisciplinary Studies Department.

Her research spans social movements, Indigenous politics in Latin America, Cuba, energy policy, and environmental governance, illustrating how complex global issues require multiple academic lenses and methods. Dr. Glidden frequently teaches international travel-based courses in Cuba, Ecuador, South Korea, and Turkey, offering students immersive experiences that connect classroom learning with on-the-ground global contexts.

Dr. Glidden serves as the Program Director for SUNY Oswego’s Global and International Studies program and coordinates the Sustainability Studies Minor, both of which fall under the Interdisciplinary Studies umbrella. She is also the Director of OUTSTEPS, a collaborative network focused on sustainability and resilience in the Great Lakes region, and the Director of SUNY Oswego’s Great Lakes Institute, further demonstrating her leadership in cross-disciplinary research that links science, policy, communities, and global perspectives.

Her work aligns directly with the mission of Interdisciplinary Studies—bridging ideas, methods, and cultures to help students understand and navigate an interconnected world.
