
Dr. Sandy Bargainnier is a Full Professor in the Department of Health Promotion and Wellness in SUNY Oswego's College of Education, Health, and Human Services. With a diverse career spanning academic, administrative, and community-focused roles, she served as Department Chair from 2013-2019, and is the Program Coordinator for Integrative Professional Studies (IPS) from 2022-2026., IPS is an innovative online degree program within the College of Liberal Arts, Sciences, and Engineering that addresses the dynamic needs of adult learners in the modern workforce.
Advocacy is at the core of Bargainnier’s work, particularly in supporting refugee communities. Drawing from her extensive experience in higher education, mentorship, legal aid, and community engagement, she has contributed significantly to the well-being of New Americans in Syracuse, NY. Her expertise in refugee wellness is demonstrated through her advocacy efforts, scholarly work, teaching, and community service, further enhanced by completing the United States Department of Justice Immigration Law training.
Her career journey is built on a strong foundation in health and physical education, shaped by over 20 years as a professional preparation teacher educator. She proudly held the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential for 33 years and was a Nationally Board-Certified Health and Wellness Coach for six years. Earlier in her career, she was a certified and licensed Athletic Trainer, further enriching her expertise in promoting health and wellness across diverse populations.
Service is central to Dr. Bargainnier’s professional and personal ethos. From volunteering with a refugee resettlement agency to serving on various boards, she is deeply committed to making a positive impact within and beyond academia.
