The Fulbright-Hays Program provides grants to U.S. educators, students, and institutions for overseas research and training focused on non-Western languages and area studies. Funded by Congress through the U.S. Department of Education, it is one of the few Fulbright programs supporting group projects abroad.
In summer 2024, thirteen SUNY Oswego educators spent a month in Japan studying its culture, language, pop culture, and politics. They gathered materials to develop curricula for K-12 and university courses. The trip was funded by a $119,033 grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
Participants in the Fulbright-Hays Group Project Abroad experience Japanese culture firsthand by wearing traditional kimonos, inspiring the development of hands-on art and cultural lessons designed for classroom use.
Educators are welcome to explore the curricula and use in their own classrooms.
