The English and Creative Writing Department was instrumental in becoming a published author. From the three-tier genre pathways to the staff constantly finding new ways to help me, I wouldn't be where I am today without it.

That time spent speaking about my thoughts, formulating a thesis and defending it, gave way to everything I do in my career and personal life today.  It helped to advance my goal of creating spaces where folks are seen and respected even through disagreements.

As someone from a very rural, blue collar background, I had never given my creative aptitude a second thought as to a practical career, however, it was my time at SUNY Oswego and the mentorship of the creative writing faculty who inspired me to keep chopping away and endeavoring for more.

The creative writing program offers students early exposure to real-world industry experiences, guided by the mentorship of the faculty. Opportunities to practice screenwriting, creative nonfiction, and digital storytelling during a study abroad trip to Europe, shaped me into the well-rounded storyteller I am today.
