Programs

Through their many programs and projects, members of the Emeriti Association play a leadership role in supporting the goals and plans of the college. Highlights of emeriti programs and projects include:

Emeriti Association Newsletter

Published twice a year, the newsletter is distributed to all emeriti faculty and staff. The newsletter highlights current college news and provides emeriti with a vehicle for keeping in touch with one another by listing names and addresses as well as brief notes about who is doing what and where.

Annual Emeriti Luncheon

Held each year on the first Monday of August, this popular event attracts a wide variety of retired faculty and staff.

Annual Meeting

All emeriti are invited to attend the annual business meeting of the association held at 10 am before the annual luncheon on the first Monday of August. Minutes are recorded every meeting.

Hall of Presidents

The Emeriti Association created a gallery of portraits of the 10 presidents and four acting presidents of the college, which can be found in the main corridor of Sheldon Hall.

Memorial Book Project

In recognition of professional achievement and years of service to SUNY Oswego, the Emeriti Association purchases memorial books in the names of emeriti librarians, faculty and non-teaching professionals who taught in an academic department or the Campus School. Each book is housed in Penfield Library and carries a bookplate with the name of the deceased member. Books purchased in the individual's discipline are selected by Penfield's librarian staff. See more about the Memorial Book Project.

Building Plaques

The Emeriti Association is in the midst of a project to place plaques in campus buildings bearing the names of former faculty and others associated with the college. Each plaque bears their picture and biographical information.

Scholarships

The Emeriti Association annually offers a $1,000 scholarship to a matriculated SUNY Oswego student who is a direct descendent of an Oswego faculty member or emeritus. Applicants must file an application and demonstrate financial need by submitting a FAFSA report.

Oswego Area Luncheon

Emeriti, associates and their guests gather for luncheons in the fall and spring at Springside at Seneca Hill.  Beyond a few announcements, there is no program or business other than to visit with one another and enjoy a delicious well-served luncheon.

Surviving Spouse Information

Several members have requested information about what to do following the death of a retiree.

Association Membership

None of the programs mentioned above would be possible without the operating monies made available through the annual or life contributions of emeriti. The fiscal year runs from July 1 - June 30.

Options include:

Lifetime contribution - $125
Annual contribution - $20.
