Professional Licensure Disclosure Statement

All academic programs offered by SUNY Oswego that lead to a state license or certification in a particular profession have been designed to meet state licensing requirements in the state of New York. Our programs are not designed to meet licensure requirements in other states. If you plan to pursue a license in a particular profession in a state other than New York after you graduate, it is your responsibility to determine whether our curriculum will meet the requirements in the state where you plan to live and work. For questions about licensure disclosure, please contact SUNY Oswego's Provost Office. Phone: 315-312-2290

Location Determines Title IV Aid Eligibility

Adherence to the federal regulations is a condition of Title IV eligibility (i.e., the ability to offer federal student aid). We are required to determine and track where our students are located (i.e., where they lay their head) as opposed to their state of residency when they enroll in programs that lead to professional licensure or certification. In order for these students to be eligible for federal student aid, they must be located in the State of New York.

Students whose location is New York State pursuing programs that lead to professional licensure or certification are deemed eligible for receiving Title IV aid. Students whose location is not in New York State must file a signed written attestation statement that verifies that they intend to seek licensure/certification in New York State if their academic program meets the educational requirements for licensure/certification.

Policy for Tracking Student Location

We must determine each student's location (i.e., state):

  • At the time of the student's application, their home address provided through the application process is used as the student's location.
  • At the time of the student's initial enrollment (their first semester of enrollment) in an educational program, their local address (residence hall, apartment, etc.) where they reside is used as the student's location. This information is maintained in Banner (our Student Records System).
  • Upon formal receipt from the student of information about a change in the student's location (i.e., student moves to another state), Banner facilitates a change of address.
  • For students who are matriculated in online programs, their permanent address is used in determining their location.
