Turn your passion into a teaching career. If you hold a bachelor’s degree and would like to become a classroom teacher, the initial teaching certification program prepares you with the skills to channel your interests or past degree into a career in education. 

These program options are for those who have a bachelor’s degree in a subject area other than teaching and now want to become a certified NYS teacher. 

Adolescence Education (Grades 7-12), MST

Candidates will engage in a program that provides content and practices, and clinically-enhanced experiences, appropriate to inclusive classrooms. This program will lead to certification in adolescent education, grades 7-12, in a subject area.

 

Art Education (Grades K-12), MAT

This program leads to an Initial Teaching Certification in Art. The program will admit qualified candidates to begin the fall semester and spring semester of each academic year. This program is intended for graduates of fine arts programs who are seeking to teach art in schools at all grade levels.

 

Career and Technical Education (Grades K-12), MSEd

This program prepares individuals to teach their occupational and career specialty in schools, colleges, industry and the private sector. Depending on the program area completed, this program can lead to NYS teacher certification. Specialty areas include Agricultural Education, Business and Marketing Education, Health Careers, and Trade and Technical education.

Childhood Education (Grades 1-6), MST

The MST Program leading to Initial Teacher Certification in Education is a full-time 15-month program, beginning in May and culminating in August of the following year. This clinically rich program is a cohort model that combines coursework and supervised field placements.
