Academic Information for Students

Exam Schedules

Final examinations will be given in your regular classroom (when possible) according to the schedule below, which is based on the day of the week the class first meets and the time of day that it meets. Final examinations for courses that have a zero (0) credit discussion and/or laboratory section will be given according to the schedule for the lecture section. If you are teaching a laboratory course and need a time for a final, please contact the Registrar's Office via email at [email protected].

Dates/times are subject to change.

Examination time and date for classes that meet on an irregular schedule will be scheduled during the class time most closely fitting the regular schedule. These exams may have adjusted times because of conflicts, so be sure to consult with your instructor.

  • Common final examinations will be given on Monday, December 8th, from 8 to 10 am. Your instructors will announce the room.
  • Evening classes (beginning after 4 PM) will be scheduled during the normal class time in Final Exams Week.
  • Exam days and times are displayed on myOswego after the registration "Add" deadline each semester.

Grades

SUNY Oswego does not mail grade reports. Fall, Winter, and Spring semester grades are posted all at once in myOswego. To view your grades, login to myOswego and follow these instructions:

  • Locate the Student Records tab
  • Select Student Profile
  • Select either the View Grades or Academic Transcript link

A grade of 'Z' means the instructor did not submit a grade before the deadline. The instructor will need to update and submit it later.

Pass/Fail Option

The primary purpose of the pass-fail option is to afford juniors and seniors an opportunity to explore course work in areas outside of their regular degree requirements without the direct application of the normal letter grade scale to their grade point average. A course selected under the provisions of the pass-fail option is assigned a grade of Pass (P) if the student earns a final grade of D- or above. The student is assigned a Fail (F) if the student earns an E for the course.

There are several important limitations and qualifications to requesting the pass-fail option. They are listed on the Pass-Fail Option Form. Forms must be submitted by "Final Date to Select Pass/Fail Option" deadline listed on the academic calendar.

E to F Requests

Undergraduate students can invoke the E to F policy once. Please work closely with an academic advisor when considering if or when to request E to F.

Eligibility Requirements

A student who changes their major may request to have E grades from the previous major(s) changed into F grades. The request will be approved when all of the following conditions are met:

  • The E grade was earned in a course that is required for the old major (e.g., core, cognates, prerequisites). This policy does not apply to elective courses in the old major.
  • The E grade was earned in a course that is not required for the new major (e.g., it is not part of the core, cognates, or prerequisites of the new major). This course can be an elective in the new major.
  • The student's most recently completed semester was a Successful Semester.
  • The student has successfully completed a core course in the new major with a grade of C- or better.
  • The student has not previously benefited from this E to F policy.

Definition: Successful Semester

The Successful Semester concept applies to Fall and Spring only. A student is deemed to have had a Successful Semester if the student:

  • Has a semester GPA of 2.0 or above and
  • Has received grades of A through D-, P, S, H, or IP in 12 credits for the semester when full-time.

Benefit and Intended Use

E grades negatively impact GPA; F grades do not. This policy can be invoked once to minimize the negative impact on GPA, as opposed to repeating course(s) no longer applicable to the current field of study.

How to Request

Send a request to [email protected] using their official Oswego email with the subject line: "E to F request".

A brief online form will be provided. After submitting the form, students will be contacted with an assessment of which courses are eligible under this policy.
