Richard Farfaglia is a retired communications director and campaign manager. During his 25 years in the New York State Assembly, he served five different Assembly Speakers in senior staff and cabinet level positions. During that time, he was the Director of the New York State Assembly’s House Operations Committee and later served as the Assembly’s Director of Communications. Active politically, Farfaglia was the Director of the highly successful Democratic Assembly Campaign Committee. Following his service in the Assembly, he became Director of Communications for New York State’s largest healthcare workers union, the Service Employee International Union Local 1199.
A U.S. Army Security Agency veteran, Farfaglia earned his BA Degree, Magna Cum Laude, from SUNY Oswego in 1973. He was named a Distinguished Alumnus of SUNY Oswego in 1985 and he was a recipient of SUNY’s Golden Anniversary Chancellor’s Recognition Award in 1998. Farfaglia was appointed to SUNY Oswego’s College Council on September 11, 2012, by Governor Andrew M. Cuomo.
In addition to his service on the College Council, he is active in the community. Farfaglia has served on numerous charitable boards over the years, including Oswego County Catholic Charities and St Luke’s Heath Services. He was a founding board member of the Fulton Wrestling Club, the Friends of Section 3 Wrestling, and the New York Wrestling Association for Youth.
