Policies
- Please contact us at least two weeks in advance of your preferred date. The more notice you give us, the more likely we are to be able to schedule you for your preferred time and develop a high-quality session for your students.
- If there is a synchronous component to your course, expect to be present for your librarian-led session. Students learn from your actions; use your presence to show them this content matters.
- Be prepared to send us a copy of the relevant assignment(s) when we get in touch. We'll use our experience answering student research questions to tailor the librarian-led session to your students' needs.
Class formats
Librarians can work with classes taught in any format: in person, online, or both. Please be clear with your librarian about your needs so that they can plan appropriately.
What topics can librarians address?
Librarians are deeply engaged with information literacy, regardless of whether it focuses on library resources. We engage students in the nonlinear and iterative process of research, requiring flexibility and persistence to meet evolving information needs. Librarian-led class sessions can take many forms, and we encourage you to reach out to us to see if we may be able to accommodate unusual requests.
Some commonly requested topics include:
- How to find journal articles, books, or other materials related to a subject area
- Developing and refining search strategies and keywords to improve results
- What is peer review and why does it matter
- When and why to cite sources
- Tools to help cite sources
- How AI can appropriately be used to support a research assignment (be sure to address your course policies on AI with the librarian first!)
