In addition to being an educator, Dr. Stetson is a native Central New Yorker and a bilingual clinical social worker with over 20 years of experience. Throughout his social work career, Dr. Stetson has held both direct practice and administrative positions in mental health and child welfare organizations. For the past 12 years, he has worked primarily with inner city immigrant clients in a private practice setting. Dr. Stetson is also an active member of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) serving on the New York State chapter's Central Division Steering Committee and the Political Action for Candidate Election (PACE) Committee.
Research
Dr. Stetson's research interests are in the area of social determinants of mental health, particularly neighborhood level influences. He is interested in understanding how coping and problem solving activities found within the more disadvantaged higher crime neighborhoods influence development and put residents at higher risk for negative mental and physical health outcomes.
