Funding for Experiential Learning

Internship Impact Fund

The Internship Impact Fund makes experiential learning possible for all SUNY Oswego Students. We do this by creating more paid internships and by addressing some of the "hidden costs" of internships.

Email experience@oswego.edu for more information.

Wage Support

Thanks to the Impact Fund, we've been able to grow the number of paid internships by 27%.  A select number of internship positions are supported by this fund through hourly wages for 3-credit experiences.

All Impact-Funded sites have been pre-selected and are searchable in Handshake.

Pre-approved Impact-funded sites include:

  • On-campus peer-to-peer support positions
  • On-campus research with faculty
  • Off-campus positions with not-for-profit organizations in Oswego and Onondaga Counties

Living Stipends

The Impact Fund supports a limited amount of living stipends for "hidden" costs like:

  • Transportation and mileage
  • Professional clothing
  • Childcare costs
  • Fingerprinting and pre-screenings
  • Meal block plans through Auxiliary Services

Students who are eligible for living stipends will be contacted by our office each semester with detailed criteria and an application link. Funds are available to students who are registered for internships, service-learning, student teaching, and clinical experiences.

Student Teachers/School Counselors - The application for spring stipends closed on February 3.

Internships/GST Experiences - Eligible students will be contacted with application instructions after the add/drop period. Check your Oswego email for details.

Tuition Scholarships

Students completing unpaid internships during Winter and Summer session are eligible for tuition scholarships based on the number of registered credit hours.

Feinberg Family Professional Fund (Open to All Majors)

The Feinberg Family Fund at SUNY Oswego was originally created in 2003 by Robert Feinberg ’78 and his wife, Robbi. The fund has grown to support SUNY Oswego students seeking professional and academic experiences to further their co-curricular career goals including Internships, Co-ops, and various professional development opportunities.

Experiential Learning Scholarships

Jake Berg '04 ALANA Internship Scholarship

This scholarship was established by Jake Berg ’04 to provide perpetual support for undergraduate students with demonstrated financial need – who are involved in ALANA – and are participating in a credit-bearing internship. SUNY Oswego brought Jake into a host of immersive experiences as well as provided him with the foundation to thrive professionally. He would like to pay that sentiment forward with this fund.  The next scholarship round is available Summer 2024 - Spring 2025.

James F. Rogers '76 School of Business Internship Fund

James F. Rogers graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BS in Business Administration in 1976 and believes the experience he gained as the Business Development Representative for Columbia Banking in Oswego was a key element in his development and career success.  It helped him win the Outstanding Business Student Award and provided a valuable reference on his resume. He strongly believes in the value of performing work and gaining the related experience in one's career field while still a student. This Internship sponsorship by James is his way to payback to Oswego and pay it forward to current students who have shown their dedication to their studies and to working in a Business career.  The next scholarship round is available Summer 2024 - Spring 2025.

Steve Levy '87 Broadcasting Summer Internship Fund

This endowed internship fund was established by ESPN broadcaster Steve Levy '87 to support Broadcasting students interested in taking internships to gain professional experience.  The fund will be used to offset the cost of tuition credits and living expenses for Broadcasting students who demonstrate initiative and interest in the field and who would not otherwise be able to afford to take on an internship.  The next scholarship round is available Summer 2024.

Jordan Siddon - Jake Berg Scholarship Winner

Doing an internship with Cryomech, Inc. has helped me bridge the gap between education and required work experience. This allowed me to grow in confidence as an individual after knowing that I have the needed tools to become successful.
