Dave Lloyd

Distinguished Alumni Award 2018

Dave graduated from SUNY Oswego with a BS in Education and a Minor in Athletic Coaching in 1981.  He taught Math at Central Square Jr. High before going to work at Nine Mile Point, where he spent the majority of his 23 years there focused on leadership, interpersonal and organizational development.  In 2005 Dave stepped out of his comfort zone leaving the nuclear business and joined Novelis Corporation, as the Plant Employee Development Leader.  During this time, he has been actively involved on the LOC Curriculum Committee, as well as serving as a presenter for the last 6 years.

Dave has dedicated much of his life to coaching and mentoring kids and adults.  He has coached in the Oswego Little League and Oswego Youth Soccer programs.  However the majority of his adult life has been centered around the Oswego Minor Hockey Association where he spent 30+ years as a coach, 15 years on the board of directors and 6 years as organization President.  Dave led many initiatives designed to showcase his hometown of Oswego, hosting teams from across the United States, Canada and Russia in youth hockey tournaments with the crown jewel being awarded the opportunity to serve as the host city for the 2000 USA Hockey National Championship tournament.  One of his proudest moments was receiving the Joseph Scanlon Award recognizing lifetime commitment to the development of youth through the Oswego Minor Hockey program.

Dave currently serves on the Workforce Development Board of Oswego County; the Oswego CiTi/BOCES P-Tech School Governance Committee; advisory committees for Manufacturing degree and certificate programs at Oswego CiTi/BOCES, Cayuga Community College and SUNY Oswego; the United Way of Greater Oswego County’s Golf Tournament Committee, serving as chairmen from 2006 – 2012.  Dave maintains his “hockey fix” serving as the volunteer Mental Skills coach for the Oswego State Men’s Ice Hockey team as well as serving on the team’s booster club (The Blue Line Club).

Dave spends most of his “free time” with his wife of 34+ years, Michele, either on the golf course, traveling to warm places or following the careers of their sons, Nick and Tim, their daughter-in-law, Jenna, and spoiling their grand-dog, Charlie.  Dave owns a small consulting business that focuses on training, coaching and mentoring adults and kids in leadership and interpersonal skills, team and organizational development and generally inspiring people to be good humans.
